Durarara is just amazing *o*
Sep. 7th, 2011 10:09 pmWhew, I haven't been active in two months, huh -______- The previous term was pretty hectic I don't even sleep during the weekends >o< Now, it's the last day of my term break T^T I actually decided to use the break to catch up with all the fandoms I've neglected but alas, my Internet connection ditched me and wanted a break, too. Even now, it still hasn't come back. Luckily, we have a Globe Tattoo for the times that this happens :D Anywaaayy, because of the lack of Internet connection, I had to somehow find a way to survive the break. I thought long and hard until I realized that hey, I have the Durarara light novel translations downloaded in my laptop! I started reading from Volume 4 because the anime already showed Volumes 1 - 3. And my goodness, I realized over and over again just how awesome Durarara is. I even almost forgot to eat so many times because I HAD TO finish what I was reading. And I really like the new characters like Awakusu Akane, Chikage Rokujo and Vorona. Shizuo and Akane's relationship is just sooo cute I wanna draw theeemmm (but that doesn't mean I pair them with each other >o< Shizuo x Izaya, still XD) Chikage reminds me of Bleach's Urahara because they have similar hats. I really liked Urahara (back when I was still reading Bleach) so that's probably one of the reasons why I like Chikage. But I also like him because of his personality. And Vorona is so kickass. Woman + kickass = awesome. And her way of speaking is funny.
One thing that I like about Durarara is that even if the theme is dark, it still manages to not be that serious and make me laugh at times. It's okay to be serious when needed. But when something I'm reading is so serious all the way through, my brain just becomes exhausted and I need to sleep. With Durarara, I can read it for hours and still be energetic. And the novels made me like Shinra's character. Though he was already likeable in the anime, the "Lovey-Dovey Prattles of an Underground Doctor" parts of the light novels just made him be part of my favorite Durarara characters list (although most of the characters are already in that list >o<). It's kind of awesome how even though you can only read Shinra's side of the conversation, and even though the scenes are comedic, you can still understand what is happening and there is plot advancement (instead of just being a filler) It's just a pity that there's no complete translation of Volumes 7 and 8 so I had to jump to Volume 9 after Volume 6 ;^; Although the story is still understandable without reading the two missing volumes, there are still questions where the answers can most likely be found in the missing volumes. Questions such as:

- Who are Mikage and his brother? From Volume 9, I know that his brother (I forgot his name, but it starts with an E) is Mairu's martial arts teacher, while Mikage was a classmate of Izaya before...
- New members of the chatroom. Saki is obviously Mikajima Saki. Pure Water 100% is probably Kuronuma Aoba. There are two others that I can't remember the names, but one of them is Mikage's brother so the other one is probably Mikage?
- Vorona is somehow now working with Shizuo and Tom. Last time I saw her, she was trying to kill Shizuo. Now, she's part of the debt collector group... But Slon and Igor were not mentioned. I wonder what happened to them
- In Volume 6, Izaya was stabbed by some person. Then, in Volume 9, he's back to work.
- Shinra was attacked by Yadogiri Jinnai (according to Izaya). But the motivation for this attack is unknown (to me, that is)
- Will Chikage appear again? I hope he's not just some character that appeared and then will never be seen again >o< I'm really fond of him so I hope he comes back!
- Aoba seems to have met with Shinra before...
- Mikado stabbing Aoba with the ballpen was awesome. But he was barely mentioned in Volume 9. I wonder what's happening with him. It seems that he's being trained by the Blue Squares members
- Did Kida meet with Anri in Volume 7 or 8? It seems that way. (And hurray, Kida's back! Although he's wearing that yellow scarf again. I wonder what he's planning to do)
But even with these questions, I still enjoyed Volume 9. We get to see Izaya's and Shinra's middle school life and their relationship with each other. It was amusing to find out that Izaya's been using Nakura's name (who I initially thought was a girl -_-u) as his revenge or something for hurting Shinra back then. And then, there are also the scenes where Earthworm was "torturing" Izaya and telling Izaya that he fails as an information broker. As much as I don't like Izaya and his schemes, it kind of annoys me to read Earthworm belittling him. So when Izaya started his counter attack, I was mentally cheering for Izaya to crush those effing persons who dared insult his name.
Aarrrgghh, I really wish that there were translations of Volumes 7 and 8. Or Volume 10. I want to know what happens neeeeexxxttttt >o< Pleasepleasepleaseplease let my prayers be answered. Or maybe I should just learn Japanese so that I can read them raw >o<
